About Me
Dr. Lacy Woods Hochkammer
OTD, OTR/L, PCES
I'm a maternal and pelvic health occupational therapist (OT) licensed in Virginia and West Virginia. I am passionate about supporting women and families as they navigate physical, emotional, and overall changes from pregnancy to postpartum & beyond. I believe every parent intuitively knows how to birth and care for their children - my job is to help guide you in the process.
My Story
Becoming pregnant with my first son during the pandemic came as an unexpected surprise. To cope with all of the unknowns, I jumped into research and attempted to learn everything that could possibly be known about pregnancy, birth, and caring for a baby. I found myself overwhelmed as I tried to balance my own health and wellbeing with working full-time in healthcare. I went into every prenatal appointment prepared with questions but was constantly disappointed by the lack of holistic support available for women and mothers like me.
I went into my birth with a supportive partner and a meticulously written plan, but unprepared to advocate for myself. After I delivered my son, I realized that while I meticulously researched prenatal health and infant care, I wasn't prepared for the emotional and physical demands of postpartum.

The massive shift in my roles, routines, and relationships took me by surprise. I struggled with mental health challenges early in pregnancy and despite feeling good initially postpartum, anxiety snuck in. I found myself, a well-supported and educated new mother, without the resources I needed. This experience ignited a passion to help other mothers and families navigate these challenges.
Through my OT studies and pursuit of a doctorate, I delved into maternal and women's health. In my second pregnancy, a miscarriage further solidified my commitment to supporting mothers through all stages, including loss. While receiving training in perinatal mental health, pregnancy and postpartum corrective exercise, and pelvic health I honed my knowledge of birth preparation and recovery.
Now, as a mom of two (one born in a hospital, the other at home), I understand the vast spectrum of birth experiences. Whether you are planning to become pregnant, experiencing a loss, or have multiple children, I will work with you to achieve an empowered & enjoyable parenting experience.
